Time Flies When You Feel Grounded

Eight hour work shifts, ten page papers due by midnight, and a badgering girlfriend who wants to watch half-priced movies on a Tuesday night. Start the coffee pot because it’s going to be a long night.

How does one balance all of this out? I was a troubled person asking this same question at a point in my life. Always wanting to go out, and pleasing other people first before the important things needed to be done. I realized that I couldn’t continue to live my life like this, and started implementing structure into my life.

Working countless hours at work, then going straight to school to only find out you have a paper due within the next two days is always troublesome, but there are ways around it. I used to save papers for the last minute thinking I will be “ok”, and the paper will be done on time. Little did I know that I would be up until three in the morning just trying to get the paper done, not even worrying if I was following the criteria.

After slowly realizing that the logic I once had wasn’t working, I grasped that maybe I should change my routine, and see if other things would work for me so that I would not be stressed all the time. What a shocker, right? I started asking friends and professors if they had any helpful tips to be more time consuming. I got a lot of helpful ideas, and starting putting them to use. I started to use my planner in my phone for important dates so I could be prepared days ahead. When you know you have a project due the following week after it was assigned, try to work on it once a day so that you don’t have to worry about trying to do it all in one night.

Once I started to plan things out accordingly, my life quickly became stress free. I felt as if I had more time to do things now that my schedule was balanced out. Being able to manage your time if a very challenging task we all struggle with, but can be improved once you put the time and effort into changing your habits. It’s like taking a huge burden off of your shoulders.  Just give it a try. I can guarantee that only good will come from it.
