Ever wanted to record information but need the right equipment? Students and faculty should be aware of the media equipment that is available in the library here on campus free of charge. Tools like cameras and editing equipment could play a huge role in the learning process for students who are learning how to communicate to mass audiences and delivering any type of news.

Ryan Farrington, Media Services Director since 2008, empowers students to use as much equipment for academic purposes. “Students are allowed to rent equipment up to a week,” he says. Cables and accessories are provided when renting media equipment. After using the equipment returns should be brought to Media Services, located in the library. However, if you have overdue charges on library rentals, you can not rent any media equipment. $1 a day charges are charged to you if overdue on media equipment occurs.

Borrowers will sign a HCC Media Services Usage Agreement prior to renting the equipment. Some of the available equipment includes:

Media Services Department’s mission statements states “Media Services provides support to students, faculty, and staff in the effective use of classroom and presentation technologies.” Using these tools can benefit Journalism and Communication students the most. Equipment is expensive and to have it free at charge on campus is convenient.

During the new Lafayette building construction, the Media Services department will become new and advanced. With a video editing lab and eight station limit, the new department’s look is going to be very useful to students who are looking forward to enhancing their learning on media equipment.

The media services room is located in the library, Room B114 located in the Lafayette Building. You may also contact the media services department at 203-332-5180. For further information and reservations, email [email protected].
