Academic advising is key to having a successful college experience. A large number of students often take classes that do not even apply to their majors, making them waste time and money. You may be someone who just seems confused about your college plan and where your path is headed. Housatonic offers one-on-one advising in the counseling center in Lafayette Hall Room A108.

Having a degree is necessary nowadays to get a job. You want to have a plan. That way you can finish as early as possible. Although grades are important, the counseling center doesn’t only focus on signing up for classes. They also do personal counseling as well.

If you are feeling depressed and just need someone to talk to the counseling center is the place for you.

Edwin Chapman, one of the main counselors, said a lot of people come in with personal issues. Many may be afraid to walk into a room and speak to a random person, but they are very welcoming.

Edwin also spoke about Linda Wolfson. “Linda Wolfson is head of the Women’s Center here and deals with women’s personal issues.”

Though they may not get a lot of women coming in daily, they have had women come in with family problems, anxiety, pressure from school, and even questions regarding pregnancy.

Sometimes it’s not easy talking to parents about issues like this. Wolfson will make you feel like you’re at home.

Services are available on a walk-in-basis or by appointment.

The counseling center includes academic advising, transfer information, career information, degree evaluation, and workshops.

The hours of operation are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Give them a call at 203-332-5097 to book an appointment.
