Continuing to Connect with Our Community with a Fresh New Look!

Like it has been for so many, this year has been a wild ride for the Horizons staff.   While our fall magazine is currently in production, plans to distribute the print edition are on hold because of the limited number of students, faculty, and staff regularly on campus, and because public health guidelines regarding COVID-19 make distributing paper in any form a less than ideal situation.   Don’t worry, though!  We will do a limited print run later, and watch for news of a new way to read the full-color, glossy showcase of student work we put out each semester in an eye-catching, pleasing format you can page through right online!  In the meantime, please take some time, if you haven’t already, to review some of the fine and thoughtful work our staff did last semester, as we completely revamped our approach to reporting and writing to meet this historic moment.

You’ll also notice that we’ve spruced up the place with the help of our intrepid Web Developer, Adam Bello, an HCC Graphic Design graduate and Horizons alumnus, who so graciously has offered to lend his talents to helping us build and maintain our online home for some time now.   Based on feedback from me and our staff, Adam has used responsive design principles to develop a simple, clean reading format that looks good on a range of screens and devices, as you can see in the comparison shot he did for us here.

A comparison of the previous website design and the current website design.

And our new and returning staff is already beginning work!   Watch for news of online articles and series designed to provide you with the information and perspectives you need, all from a student perspective, and opportunities for engagement on issues of concern to HCC students.  We want to continue, during these unusual and sometimes trying times, to help keep students informed and connected.    Thanks for reading!
